61C Cafe in Pittsburgh’s sturdy Murray Avenue strip presents itself as a straightforward, no-frills neighborhood coffee spot where the focus leans toward quality brews and a comfortable pace. Its location along a busy bus line makes it a convenient stop for commuters and locals alike, including students, remote workers, and casual visitors looking for a reliable coffee fix or a quiet nook to linger.

The atmosphere at 61C Cafe is relaxed without trying too hard — think clean, softly lit interiors with some outdoor seating for warmer days. It’s the kind of place where you could easily spend a few hours reading, working, or chatting with friends without feeling rushed. The staff are known to be patient and approachable, helping streamline your order so you can get back to your table or out the door promptly.

The menu offers a thoughtful assortment of drinks that go beyond basic coffee. This includes well-made cappuccinos, a strong espresso doppio, and approachable options like a chai tea latte or a café au lait mocha to soften the edges of the morning. Fresh juices and smoothies bring in a lighter, refreshing option, notably with interesting combos like grapefruit and blueberry with yogurt that balance sweetness and tang with texture. If you’re after something with a bit more fizz, the Italian soda varieties are an easy choice for a mild, flavorful lift.

Food-wise, 61C leans toward pastries and sweets, providing treats like cinnamon rolls, chocolate croissants, and biscotti — perfect when paired with that strong dark roast coffee. There are some sandwiches and wraps on offer for a quick bite, though these don’t stray far from café standards. Pricing can be a little higher than some nearby spots, but the portion sizes and quality balance that somewhat.

Best for those who appreciate a reliable, sit-and-stay atmosphere where the coffee is the main event. Early mornings or quieter weekday afternoons are ideal times to settle in before or after the workday rush. The evening hours, open until 9 pm, also offer a rare late-day café option in this part of Pittsburgh, making it a decent spot for an after-dinner caffeine or sweet treat.

In sum, 61C Cafe serves as a casual community hub — not flashy, but solid — suited to anyone who values a well-crafted cup and a low-key environment for work, studying, or slow conversation along one of Pittsburgh’s active neighborhood corridors.

A little pricey but the coffee we got tasted good. They also have a good list of flavor options. Other drinks besides coffee include tea, fresh juice, lemonade, sodas, milk, hot chocolate, and some other canned and bottled options. For food they have some sweets, wraps, and sandwiches. Staff were really nice, patient, and made our drinks quickly. The store was clean and the atmosphere was nice.

Classic little cafe with a lot of great cookie and pastry options, and a few premade sandwiches too! It’s nothing fancy, just good quality coffee and snacks for an actually reasonable price, perfect spot to relax, chat, or do some work!

A lovely spot for a cafe, right on the bus line and not too dimly lit. There's outdoor seating and a bathroom. The food is kind of pricey, which is my main complaint, but it's pretty good. There's a wide selection of drinks like coffee, tea, smoothies, soda, etc. The food is mainly pastries and desserts (which vary between lovely and mid), but also breakfast and lunch things like bagels and pre-made sandwiches. I see people studying all the time so the wifi can't be too bad, and enough power outlets for frequent student use. The staff are nice and pretty accommodating, but they run out of some stuff pretty fast like bagels.

There smoothie is a must, refreshing and tasty. I choose grapefruit, blueberry, and yogurt, which is a perfect blend. Once I taste it, I feel the sweetness and sour taste from fruits. Then, the bitterness of grapefruit kicks in. The texture of yogurt adds a nice end of the taste, so I feel the clear juice first and end with a denser yogurt. A quite nice blend of both texture and flavor. It also comes with a large glass cup, so you can enjoy it for almost an hour.

Coffee is good and you can sit for hours just working or reading. The cafe is also open till 9 pm which is very rare for Pittsburgh. The cookies are amazing!! get the raisin one or m&m ones.

A little loud and busy when I first arrived but nothing a yummy chai latte couldn't fix! Definitely bring headphones if you want to work just in case.

Because of circumstances, I've eaten breakfast at three different places in Squirrel Hill this week. This is the only time I'm leaving a review because the other two were easily forgettable. Today I had a breakfast wrap that was really good and well-balanced. The coffee was excellent and not overpriced. The shop itself shows a bit of age, but it works well and fits with the lack of pretentiousness here. Next time in the area, I won't bother trying another place. I'll be here.
